Before you put on your hiking shoes, you should know the secret behind the name. “Tamblingan” actually comes from two ancient Balinese words:

Tamba: meaning medicine or healing. Eling: meaning spiritual memory or consciousness.

Legend has it that centuries ago, a plague hit the local villages. A spiritual priest went to this exact lake, prayed, and drew water from it to use as medicine. The water healed the people, reminding them to always protect and respect nature.

Had the most magical and beautiful experience trekking through the jungle with my amazing guide Putu, followed by canoe ride across Lake Tamblingan. Putu was an intern and I was his first Australian tourist and he just made the whole experience amazing, explained to me all about the jungle. The rain at the end of the canoe ride just made the experience even more magical. Definately recommend this trek, not too challenging either other than a few muddy slippery spots due to the rain.

Za 850.000 IDR /osoba byla doprava z hotelu a zpět dlouhá asi 2 hodiny, zastávka na kávové farmě s cibetkami s ochutnávkou káv a čajů, zastávka u Handara gate, dvouhodinový výšlap pralesem s místní průvodkyní, asi 20 minut pádlování přes jezero zpět k začátku výšlapu a vše zakončené obědem formou bufetu v restauraci kousek od chrámu Ulun Danu Beratan. V pralese jsme viděli spoustu zajímavých rostlin včetně orchidejí, ale překvapilo nás minimum jakékoli zvěře. Doporučujeme vzít si dalekohled.

Excellent medium length hike through the rainforest with our wonderful and very knowledgeable guide Gede, finishing with a canoe trip over Lake Tamblingan. Jungle floor a bit slippy especially after the rain, good shoes and sure-footedness helps. I had neither so I brought back some mud and leeches.

A wonderful trip into nature

This experience was 10/10 , I really wanted to see some nature and waterfalls away from the crowds and this was truly beautiful, 2 hr drive from ubud and it’s a different world, at one waterfall I was the only one there. The driver and local guide were truly incredible, they were so lovely and made me feel so comfortable especially as a single female traveller. I could not recommend this enough… but also keep it a secret so it doesn’t get overrun by tourists!!

More than a trek: a true local experience in nature

We organized a trekking tour with Agus and it was wonderful. It was a real local experience with people who truly know the area. They gave us a lot of information and made us feel at home. Everything was perfectly organized: hotel pick-up, a typical local breakfast, then a trek through the forest. After that we went canoeing on a breathtaking lake – you really have to try it to understand how special it is.

Is this trek really safe for kids and older adults?

Absolutely! Tamblingan Jungle Trek is mostly downhill and flat, fully shaded by the giant trees, and very safe. We don’t rush, so you can walk at a pace that is completely comfortable for you and your family. If you need to stop and rest, our guides are happy to take a break.

Do I need to paddle the canoe myself?

Not at all! in Tamblingan Jungle Trekking, our team will handle the paddling. All you need to do is sit back, relax, take some amazing photos, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Lake Tamblingan. However, if you would like to give it a try, please feel free!

What happens if it rains?

Bali’s tropical weather can change very quickly, but don’t let that worry you! If there is only light rain or a drizzle, the tour will absolutely still go on—in fact, a little mist makes the jungle look even more beautiful and cinematic.

If we experience sudden heavy rain, your guide will simply find a safe spot to take shelter. We will take a short break, relax, and continue our trek as soon as the rain stops or lightens up. We always adapt to the rhythm of nature!

Are there leeches or dangerous animals in the jungle?

No need to worry. The trail is well-maintained and heavily used by locals. While you will see beautiful birds, butterflies, and maybe some monkeys in the trees, dangerous wildlife or leeches are very rare on this path. Just wear regular walking shoes and you will be perfectly fine.

What time of day is best to go?

We highly recommend starting early in the morning (around 8:00 AM). The air is fresh, the forest is waking up, and you have the best chance of seeing the beautiful morning mist hovering over the lake.
