Walk Through the Rainforest
We’ll follow a natural trail through the forest around Tamblingan.
Along the way, you’ll see tall trees, spreading roots, ferns, and other tropical plants. Your guide will point out interesting details and explain what they know about the forest.
There’s no need to rush. We can pause for photographs, questions, or a short rest.
You may hear birds or spot small wildlife, but sightings are never guaranteed. There’s plenty to enjoy simply by looking around and listening to the forest.
Learn About Local Temples
Temples are part of the Tamblingan landscape and local community life.
Your guide will explain the places you pass and share stories connected with the forest and lake. Ask us about anything you’re curious about—we’re happy to explain.
Access to temple grounds depends on local arrangements and ceremonies. Some places may be viewed from outside.
We’ll let you know about respectful behaviour and photography along the way.
Cross Lake Tamblingan by Traditional Canoe
After the walk, we’ll help you board a traditional wooden canoe.
Our team takes care of the paddling, so you can rest your legs and enjoy the views. No previous canoeing experience is needed.
From the lake, you’ll see the forest from a different angle. Some days bring mist, while others offer clearer views across the water.
We’ll explain where to sit and how to board and leave the canoe. Please tell us before booking if getting into a small boat could be difficult for anyone in your group.
How Difficult Is Tamblingan Jungle Trekking?
The walk is generally easy to moderate, depending on your walking experience and the conditions that day.
You don’t need to be an experienced hiker, but you should feel comfortable walking on natural, uneven ground.
Expect:
Around 50 downhill steps near the beginning.
Tree roots to step over.
Uneven forest paths.
Muddy or slippery patches after rain.
We walk at a steady pace and can take breaks when needed. Closed shoes with good grip will help you feel more comfortable.
If you have concerns about your knees, balance, or walking stamina, message us before booking. We’ll explain the trail so you can decide whether it suits you. Read More About Trekking Difficulty
How Long Does the Experience Take?
Allow around two hours for the forest walk and canoe crossing combined.
You won’t be walking for the full two hours. Part of the experience is spent sitting in the canoe, and we also stop along the trail.
The timing can change with your pace, photo stops, weather, and ground conditions.
Hotel transfers, preparation, and any meal afterwards take additional time. If you’re coming from Ubud or southern Bali, remember to allow for the drive in both directions.
What Happens on the Day?
1. Meet Your Local Guide
We’ll send you the exact meeting point and confirm your arrival time before your visit. Come with your own driver or use a private transfer arranged separately with us.
2. Get Ready for the Walk
Your guide will introduce themselves and explain the route. This is a good time to mention any walking concerns, check your belongings, and ask questions before setting off.
3. Explore the Forest
Walk through the rainforest, stop at points of interest, and learn about the plants and temples along the route. We’ll keep a comfortable pace for your group.
4. Enjoy the Canoe Crossing
Board a traditional wooden canoe with help from our team, then enjoy the lake views while we handle the paddling.
5. Finish Your Experience
After the crossing, your guide will explain where to meet your driver. You can continue with your own plans or head back to your hotel. Lunch is not included, so you’re free to choose where to eat afterwards.

Can Children and Older Adults Join?
Yes, when the trail suits their walking ability.

Parents will need to supervise their children throughout the experience, especially near the lake.
If someone needs a level, step-free route, please contact us before booking. We want everyone to understand what the walk involves before arriving.
What Should We Bring?
Keep it simple:
Closed walking shoes with good grip.
Comfortable clothes.
A lightweight rain jacket.
A light extra layer.
Insect repellent.
A small bag for your belongings.
A phone or camera with rain protection.
Lightweight trousers and long socks are useful for covering your legs on the trail.
Avoid bringing a heavy bag, as you’ll carry it during the walk and take it into the canoe.

What Happens if It Rains?
Light rain may still allow the experience to continue, although the ground can become slippery.
Your guide will assess the conditions and explain any changes needed. Heavy rain or unsuitable lake conditions may affect the route or canoe crossing.
Ask us about weather-related cancellation and rescheduling terms before confirming your booking.
If you’re unsure about the weather before setting off, message us and we’ll discuss the arrangements.

Had the most magical and beautiful experience trekking through the jungle with my amazing guide Putu, followed by canoe ride across Lake Tamblingan. Putu was an intern and I was his first Australian tourist and he just made the whole experience amazing, explained to me all about the jungle. The rain at the end of the canoe ride just made the experience even more magical. Definately recommend this trek, not too challenging either other than a few muddy slippery spots due to the rain.Posted on Google![]()

Posted on Google![]()

Posted on Google![]()

Korte wandeltocht door de jungle. Je krijgt uitleg over verschillende planten. Nadien kanotocht over het meer. Op het meer was weinig te zien.Posted on Google![]()

Excellent medium length hike through the rainforest with our wonderful and very knowledgeable guide Gede, finishing with a canoe trip over Lake Tamblingan. Jungle floor a bit slippy especially after the rain, good shoes and sure-footedness helps. I had neither so I brought back some mud and leeches.
A wonderful trip into nature

FAQ
Quick Answers Before Your Adventure
Is this trek really safe for kids and older adults?
Absolutely! Tamblingan Jungle Trek is mostly downhill and flat, fully shaded by the giant trees, and very safe. We don’t rush, so you can walk at a pace that is completely comfortable for you and your family. If you need to stop and rest, our guides are happy to take a break.
Do I need to paddle the canoe myself?
Not at all! in Tamblingan Jungle Trekking, our team will handle the paddling. All you need to do is sit back, relax, take some amazing photos, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Lake Tamblingan. However, if you would like to give it a try, please feel free!
What happens if it rains?
Bali’s tropical weather can change very quickly, but don’t let that worry you! If there is only light rain or a drizzle, the tour will absolutely still go on—in fact, a little mist makes the jungle look even more beautiful and cinematic.
If we experience sudden heavy rain, your guide will simply find a safe spot to take shelter. We will take a short break, relax, and continue our trek as soon as the rain stops or lightens up. We always adapt to the rhythm of nature!
Are there leeches or dangerous animals in the jungle?
No need to worry. The trail is well-maintained and heavily used by locals. While you will see beautiful birds, butterflies, and maybe some monkeys in the trees, dangerous wildlife or leeches are very rare on this path. Just wear regular walking shoes and you will be perfectly fine.
What time of day is best to go?
We highly recommend starting early in the morning (around 8:00 AM). The air is fresh, the forest is waking up, and you have the best chance of seeing the beautiful morning mist hovering over the lake.
